What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is known as the global day of giving and is one of the largest charitable giving days of the year! We celebrate it on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and immediately after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s primarily fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. For many organizations Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, therefore is a time when many people focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
What’s wrong with shopping?
For many of us when it comes to shopping, there’s typically one person we’re interested in shopping for. Me, myself, and I. Let’s be honest, buying things for ourselves is so much fun! I mean, who doesn’t like to get cool stuff?! For me personally, I could probably come up with a list of at least 10 things that I want for myself at any given moment.
So what’s wrong with buying things for ourselves? Let me be clear on this – There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of our labor by spending on the things we want. It’s really a blessing from the Lord. We should all be thankful for the opportunity of work and the pay we receive from that work. However, it can also be far too easy to allow greed to overtake our thoughts and actions, resulting in sin. This is when it becomes a problem. We’ve all experienced this at some point, so you’re not alone.
Change your way of thinking.
But what if we were able to change our way of thinking about our wants just for a moment or a season? What if we focused that energy on someone who is in need, instead of on ourselves? Could we do it? Could we experience that same feeling of joy that we get when we buy the newest iPhone or an expensive outfit, by giving that money towards someone at-risk?
This year, what if you spent less on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and instead, you helped a child who is at-risk? You can! Join us on or before Giving Tuesday, and help us reach our goal of raising $5,000. We’re going to send six at-risk kids from broken families, foster homes, and underfunded schools to summer camp in 2019. By donating, you may just be giving a child a gift that will shape their life forever! Even a small donation can go a long way! Donate today or on Tuesday the 27th.
