Proverbs 31: 25-31
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of her idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring praise at the city gate.”
Mother’s Day is a time for us to pause, to stop and think of the work, time, and energy these important women spend towards caring for and supporting their families. More often than not, they are not properly thanked for the work they do every day. Thanked for the countless hours taken to care for their children and household. For the meals prepared, the rides given, the hugs than can cure any bit of sadness, and the unending support that we all can agree makes a world of difference. These women have a gentle strength like no other, and their spot is irreplaceable in our hearts.
1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” Over and over again in scripture, we are called to love. We were made in the image of God and that means we are to love as he loves. Truthfully, this is an impossible task, but that is because we are sinful by nature. We can strive over and over again, but we cannot love perfectly and that’s okay because that’s why there is grace for us. However, when I think of love, one of the best pictures on earth of this kind of love is the love you see from a mother. She loves her family unconditionally. No matter what her kids do to disobey her, no matter how many buttons they push, and no matter how many times they upset her, her love remains. Her love for her family is unwavering and contagious. There is something about it that brings comfort and healing no matter the situation.
These women are sources of comfort and peace, they are humble servants, they are wise, and they are faithful. Whether they are mothers by blood or motherly figures, they all play the same vital role in a child’s, family member’s, or loved one’s life. They are able to serve as role models, sources of encouragement through their faith, and many of them are able to show those around them the importance of living as a godly woman. These mothers do more than we can begin to imagine, and there are no words that I can use to give them the credit they deserve, so I will keep it simple.
To all the moms out there, thank you for your love and support. Thank you for being the warm embrace that brings instant comfort and a shoulder to cry on in times of trouble. Thank you for being a gentle cornerstone of strength in the household, and for being a constant source of encouragement. Thank you for being there no matter the circumstance and for listening always. Thank you to all the mothers out there, your persistence, love, comfort, and work does not go unnoticed.
Happy Mother’s Day!
