For the 26th year in a row, we get to welcome the arrival of our summer staff! This year, we are excited to have 72 college students, of which 33 are returning from previous summers.
These young people come from all over the country and beyond, including: Georgia, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, New York, Massachusettes, and even from the country of Romania! They also represent their universities which include: The University of Georgia, Georgia College and State University, Samford, Anderson, Auburn, Lee, Valdosta, University of North Georgia, Toccoa Falls, New York University, Boston University, Kennesaw State University, and Georgia Tech. These guys and gals are studying everything from Education, Business, Outdoor Leadership, Nursing, Marketing, Journalism, and even Pre-Med.
Everyone showed up to Camp Highland over the weekend and jumped straight into two weeks slammed full of training and fun! Before arriving though, every summer staff had to undergo a fairly rigorous hiring process to attain the highly sought after positions they applied for this summer. Those jobs include Counselors, Activities Staff, Photographers and Videographers, Utility Players, Boat Drivers, Lifeguards, Worship Leaders, and Nurses.
These last two weeks in May consist of training, running retreats, and a whole lot of fun! Some of the training they get to do is on the low ropes elements, pamper pole, high ropes courses, Jacobs Ladder, the Flying Squirrel, swimming and blobbing at the pond, white water rafting, volleyball, and of course a whole lot of Ultimate Frisbee.
June 3rd will be here before we know it and this group will be welcoming a couple hundred campers for their first week fo summer camp! Hope to see you there!
